The Daily Bagel

Nugax is not intended to be a commercial site (even though I have the ".com" suffix). It's my site. I agree with the line in Fight Club that I am not my job, I am not my car, my bank account and so on. Although I own and operate a bagel shop, I am not "the bagel guy," as the bank tellers insist on referring to me. I am more than that. Opening a bagel shop is a fun, exciting and rewarding way to make money for myself and my family, an economic means which allows me to be more. On this page for The Daily Bagel, I will approach the business from a personal level. This isn't advertising, it's personal perspectives.

That said, The Daily Bagel is my solution to unemployment. I came to Oregon in 1996 for a good job. When that job dried up, I didn't want to leave Oregon. I had Gaffa after all. I found a way to combine my love of food with my love of making mortgage payments and opened The Daily Bagel. The fact that I couldn't find a bagel I liked in all of Eugene helped me decide upon this route.

The shop is a blast. It's a permanent stage for me to entertain my employees and customers. We offer great food, surroundings and service. People have responded to us and the work of mouth advertising has brought us folks from all around. We've has been successful from the get go. Since my goals are modest (to be happy), all it had to do was offer a good work experience with enough financial rewards to keep my kids in bubble gum and me in models. As I write this 76 days after opening I'm very encouraged.

Below are a few photographs of the shop opening.

UPDATE: I no longer have the Daily Bagel. I ran it for 5 years and then sold it and moved back to Utah. We have family in Utah and a there was a great job opportunity. It was time to try something new. The Bagel kept us alive for years, got Michelle through Nursing School and taught me wisdom, patience and fear. Small business is not for the faint of heart. I would do another one under the right circumstances.
