Heavy Support

Devestator Squads

Much of my army list comes from a direct reaction to getting smeared by some weapon or another. The Devastator squads I painted came from my getting waxed by vehicles and other heavy weapons.

Most of my devastators are not Games Workshop, but from a long gone and forgotten line of future soldiers which were cheaper.

More to come.

Techmarines

Though officially part of Heavy Support in the Third Edition, I still have to include my many Techmarines under this heading, because that's where I intended them.

In the 3rd Edition of the rules, Techmarines’ function has been greatly diminished. Now they only add bonuses to the squad they belong to. When I made my corps of Techmarines, they were artillery squads. They manned the Thudguns which no longer exist and operated the remote controlled Tarantula platforms or manned the Mole Mortars which also are gone from the game. These now defunct weapons were the cornerstone of my non-vehicle based marine force, and the Techmarines where their keepers.

I discovered Mole Mortars and fell in love with them. To date, I have only come across a single blister pack of the weapon and I bought it on the spot. That model is in my bits box where I put it after I made a casting of it for the six copies I made. Yes, the Mole Mortar was my first attempt to cast, or re-cast, a piece. My Thud Guns are also recasts. Each weapon saw maybe two battles before they were retired.

Devastator insignia is a lightning bolt behind the Centurion C, while Techmarines have a silver wrench behind the C.
