Fast Attack
Necron Scarabs
These were the first Necrons I put together and painted. I liked the basic colors I chose, though they are not very original, I admit, they are effective and easy to paint. I painted them with the same scheme as I painted all my Necrons. Their single eye is painted with Ral Partha Fluorescent Yellow, though it sure looks green to me.
I have 12 bases of Scarabs. I don’t know how they’ll fare in battle. I wish they still exploded like they used to. Now they seem to be just fast rippers (for less cost, by the way).
Being plastic they were light and I hate light game pieces (learned that from playing Chess). I glued 15-18 flattened lead shot pellets to the underside of the bases to give them some heft. (See below)

Necron Destoyers
I don’t know why the boxed set contained all the fast attack units, but it did. The Destroyers are plastic and went together pretty well as long as one knew to attach the torso to the bottom piece before putting on the top shell. Being plastic, they were easy to pose, but had surprising few arrangements. The left arm was the real culprit. It’s stretched out in kind of a wave. I used it unaltered in three of the figures but pulled out the Xacto knife on the other three and bent it a bit to vary the pose.
Painting was done the same way as the rest of the army. I painted the shoulder armor pads black and using Micro Sol, placed two decals. By the time I got to these pieces, I was pretty good at working with the small area and curved surfaced and didn’t lose a single decal. I sealed it with flat lacquer to bring out the flat/shiny contrast I maintained with all the decaled pieces. I wanted to put decals on the butts or shells of these guys, but since the GW transfers only came in gold, I’d need a dark surface which would deviate too far from my established scheme. I could have put a stupid black stripe on them, like GW artists did, but I think that looks tacked on. GW should have make black decals to go along with the gold ones. I was content with the shoulders.
I considered basing the clear stands, just having this shaft clear. They’d match the scarabs, I thought, but having just done the Wraiths with their large boring bases, I left them clear. I did however give them a good coat of Future to help protect them from the wear of gaming and allow me to use CA glue to attach them to the pieces.
Being all plastic and not having a base I could put lead shot into, the Destroyers are annoyingly light. Eh, can’t win them all.

Wraiths
I think these will play very well in the game. Having played Genestealers and Tyranids, I understand the close combat thing. The army boxes I bought each had 2 of these guys, so I have 4.
I assembled them and gave them as much varied poses as I could without having to cut. They were a bit top heavy so I loaded the underside of their bases with about 18 flattened lead shot pellets. They’re no longer top heavy. Now they’re just plain heavy.
I painted them the usual way. The claws were highlighted with Liquitex Iridescent Silver. I painted their shoulders black and decaled them. I used the same emblem on each shoulder, but of different sizes. These were the easier of the decals I placed on my Necrons. The Wraith shoulder armor is pretty flat. I did however fail to put Micro Sol decal setting solution down first and laid the decals down on water alone. I used it over the decals to get rid of most of the edges, but I think it would have done a better job had I properly put a base down first like the others. I sealed the shoulder armor with Model master Flat Clear lacquer Finish. I think the flat contrasts works well with the shine on the rest of the piece.
The base has so much real estate that I originally used mixed heavier ballast to try and break up the monotony. I chickened out however and went with my standard uniform basing. I figured it may be boring, but at least it matches the rest of my Necron army, and my Tyranid army and my Space Marine army.
