Headquarters

C'Tan Nightbringer

Like everyone who read the Necron Codex, I wanted a Nightbringer. However, after further consideration and a heightened respect for Necron Lords, I’m not so sure of this God’s place on my battlefield. Nevertheless, I got one.

The Nightbringer model didn’t go together easily. I knew to pin the torso, but I had hoped to avoid having to pin the fragile arms. However, every unpinned joint popped open and I ended up drilling and pinning both arms and the scythe, as well as the torso and base. It’s a sturdy model now.

I tried and removed three different paint schemes before deciding on a purple/green color-shifting paint. I used this color on my Monolith and loved it. If there was a piece in the army that could use the weird color shifting color other than the mighty Monolith, it was a C’Tan. His entire form is made from living metal which the God wears like clothes, manipulating its shape to fill its needs. (I went into some detail as to how to use this paint on my Monolith write up so won’t go into again here.)

After painting the color shift I highlighted his "skin" with Shining Gold to tie him in with the army. I wanted the gold to ?bleed? onto the robes to show that it is all the same stuff. Similarly, the silver of the scythe was blended into the gold and the purple/green.

I used several coats of Testors Gloss Coat to give him a metallic shine.

I almost didn’t use the Scarab mound base, I thought it was a little much, I recanted at the last minute. I like how it raised the piece even higher. I painted the scarabs as usual and added rock and my patented Planet of Dandelions base.

Necron Lords

Having bought 2 boxes of the GW Necron Army Deal, I have two "limited edition" Necron Lords. They look exactly alike. I probably should have tried to alter the pose of one of them, at least a little, but I didn’t. Maybe later.

The only real difference is in the color of the cloak. For my first one, I went with black since I had established that as the trim color on the rest of my Necrons. The rest of him, I painted the same way as the rest of my army - they’re nothing if not uniform. The cloak was highlighted a bit with a dark blueish gray to bring up the folds. I used a Model Master Flat Clear Lacquer Finish to remove the shine. It’s a good piece, the contrast of shiny and flat really works on the black caped Necron Lord and he matches the army so well it’s hard to pick him out of the warriors.

I tried something different for the other Lord. I went with a red cloak - living on the edge! After painting the rest of him exactly as I had the first Lord. I used Ral Partha AD&D Dragon Scale Red for the base color and then used a Citadel Chestnut ink to darken the folds. I then used Ral Partha Demon’s Blood dry brush for highlighting the raised folds. (I don’t know why I list the paint company, especially Ral Partha which is, unfortunately, now defunct.)

The final result is very nice. It’s a good and much needed variation from the uniform color of the army.

Necron Destroyer Lord

It didn’t take me long to complete an entire Necron army.

The addition of the Necron Destroyer Body Lord completes my Necron Army. I know have every model GW makes for the metal guys with green guns.

I painted him the same way I painted I all my Necrons. I found some suitable decals and that was it. Uniformity can be so boring - long live the swarm!

I armed him with a Warscythe instead of the Staff of Light thinking that maybe, just maybe, he could work with the wraiths and get something out of those disappointed units. If nothing else, he can fly into close combat with the body and scythe and hold his own with the orb I also gave him. We’ll see.
