TroopsNecron WarriorsThere is only one troop type available for Necrons, the warrior. This should make troop selection easy. I painted them exactly as I painted the rest of the army. It’s the most uniform army I’ve ever painted - quite a change from my psychedelic Tyranid Swarm. After washing and assembling the pieces, I primed them with black acrylic paint and dry-brushed Liquitex Iridescent Stainless Steel. I then gave them a wash of Citiadel’s Flesh Wash to suggest rust. As this wash made them basically brown, I dry-brushed the steel again. This gave color a lot of depth. The face was Citadel’s Shining Gold with more Flesh Wash for the shadows. The gun was Americana calypso Blue, with a wash of Citadel’s Blue Sky Ink and a bit of touch up dry-brushing with straight calypso blue. I dry-brushed copper over a base of black for one of the gun cables and used Ral Partha Fluorescent Green for the other (applied thickly and several coats). I then sprayed several coats of Future over them to seal the piece and bring up a nice shine. The shine added to the color depth. I glued the green gun barrel with Elmer’s glue (PVA). I considered painting the eyes, but the sockets are very tiny and evening out two gleaming dots didn’t sound like how I wanted to spend the rest of my summer. I went with the dark empty sockets of a lifeless skeleton instead. I like plastic miniatures since they’re more posable than their pewter counterparts. They have so many different poses that they look more like a mob than a disciplined machine. I have 46 warriors (I gave 2 to Marcus who wanted them gold). Also being plastic, they were very light. I don’t like light playing pieces. I glued 7 or 8 flattened lead shot pellets to the underside of each base to give them some weight. |
