Necrons

An ancient horror has returned.

Stories and legends of the metal monsters who killed for sport and not gain were thought to be Eldar boogy man stories, told to scare and silence children. Though an occassional report from distant space would find its way to imperial capital describing sudden attacks and raids on outposts by metal “clad” warriors but no physical evidence, apart from a wrecked land raider, dead bodies and scorched buildings, ever surfaced to prove the existence of the fabled “Necrons.”

Then something changed. The occassional raid became an all out attack on Meaht prime. Relayed communications clearly showed the ghostly figures of metal men with glowing green guns cutting down the Imperial colonists by the hundreds. The loss of an entire division of Space Wolves Space Marines convinced the Empire that the Necrons not only existed but were a serious threat. Their numbers were legion, their weapons unstoppable, their technology unfathonable.

The Necrons had returned.

What attracted me to this army was that it looked cool and supremely easy to paint. I figured it would be a good starter army for Caius and, according to old rumors, was a formidable force on the table top.

I picked up three of the Necron Army Deals (with codexes) when Games Workshop first introduced the army. I calculated the savings and though I hadn’t planned on buying so many at once, I bought three for the savings.

I put them all aside until Caius’ birthday when I gave him his box. Caius opened his box, said ?cool? and hasn’t touched them since. I, on the other hand, immediately painted both of my boxes and ordered more. I was right: they were very easy to paint. They do all right in the game, but I think Tyranids are funner.
