Tyranid Warriors

My first Tyranids Warriors came with the original First Edition boxed set. Marines and Tyranids and Genestealers. I was able to augment the Tyranid Warriors by trading with other players, since Tyranids weren't as popular as marines. I have a lot of these plastic miniatures, but I only made 6 for my army. The rest of the army was made with 2nd edition pewter figures mostly purchased as part of the Tyranid Army box.

I converted all of the new tyranid Warriors to give them necks. I didn't like how their heads just sat on their shoulders. Also, this change made them more uniform with my others. It also made them uniquely mine.

All of my Tyranids warriors are different. I kept their basic "skin" color uniform along a red or burgundy shade, I made sure that each "shell" was unique from it's brothers. I also tried to make all of the weapons uniform. I have 22 Warriors and with the release of the new 3rd edition figures, I'm thinking of getting a few more.

Lictors

For some reason I never really liked the Lictor. Maybe because I always thought it was just a glorified Genestealer. However, Genestealers are the greatest troops in the whole WH40 universe, so I'm warming up to the species.

I approached my Lictors differently than my other broods. Lictors are chameleons. I thought I'd paint them to reflect this powerful innate ability.

My first Lictor is based on the idea of a cuddlefish. Cuddlefish dazzle their prey by changing colors and then strike. I figured this is what a Lictor would do when out in the open. I thus drybrushed the entier spectrum over a black base coat, starting with green at the bottom, to reflect it blending with the ground to orange and yellow on it's uppermost claws. The mouth I painted with gloss coat to suggest wetness.

For my second Lictor I used a panzer tank as a inspiration and mottled it's colors after such a camouflage scheme. It actually works and when tucked behind woods on the map, it can be overlooked.

The rules allow me up to three Lictors, so I might pick up a 3rd edition one later.
