Winged Chaos Assault Marines (Ted's Boys)

I made wings for Ted, my friend and Warhammer adversary. He plays Chaos Marines and wanted to convert some of his assault guys into faster assault guys. I cast some wings as best I could at the time, not having my pressure pot then, and delivered them as part of a trade for an Emperor’s Champion I’ve not yet painted. Ted didn’t have a drill and couldn’t get the wings to stay on with green-stuff putty. I tried to tell him to just use superglue in abundance but he thought it best to bring them over and have me see what I could do to attach them.

I attached them with abundant superglue. While I was assembling the wings, I did a little extra modeling on them, like fixing the backpacks to accommodate the wings and adding weight to the bases. Then I washed them. Then I primed them. Then I just kept working on them until I figured I’d just paint them up and deliver them to Ted finished and ready to go. He has no painted figures at all, except his Bloodthirster Khorne Demon which I did previously. I figured it would be a nice gesture and surprise for my consistent foe.

I knew these guys weren’t for his Khorne army - they move plenty fast without wings, thank you very much. They were for his new Chaos army, the Slaanesh guys with the noise guns. I studied the basic color scheme on the net and then painted them up. I didn’t worry as much about the detail as the color effects. This was in keeping with my style of late and I figured it would help these pieces fit in with Ted’s eventually painted army. I’m not saying I wasn’t careful, I’m saying I was deliberately broad.

The final figures are nice. I wouldn’t have painted them any differently if they were mine. The layers of color gives depth to the models and brings out the detail. The colors are in keeping with the chapter and the base, my traditional “Planet of Dandelions” is something of a signature.

I won’t pretend to know what these guys are called, but I must assume they’re the Chaos equivalent to jump-pack equipped Assault Marines. I also assume that though I’m giving them to Ted, I’ll be seeing these guys every Sunday afternoon.

Note: Ted has since painted over the fantastic pink/purple stain on these guys to a darker purple to better match his army's "Non-Barbie Color" scheme. I mourn the loss of the subtle color I achieved on them.
