Battle TerrainOur local hobby shop decided to close down its gaming room just as I found a Warhammer 40,000 opponent. Facing a coming battle in two weeks, I furiously made an entire tableful of terrain to cover the attacking Tyranids and confuse the defending Chaos marines. I was actually surprised how much I got done in such a short time. Of course I didn’t do much other modeling those two weeks, but scratch-building terrain was a great change of pace. I’ve since created a couple of other pieces; I’ll ad them later. The trees are Railroad terrain glued, but the other features are all scratch built. Most were made from cardboard and either Super Sculpey or Magic-Sculp epoxy putty. The refinery was thrown together with empty plastic cups, candy bottles, film canisters and staws - a true scratch build. I threw an old WH40K decal on it because I could. Strategy enough, the hardest problem I had was concealing the edge of the corrugated cardboard bases. Lot of putty went to just creating a lip to conceal the telltale cross-section. Here are some pictures. If you have any questions of how a piece was made, drop me a line. See also Tyranid Mycenic Spores. |
